Reid Tolman Brinton

October 12, 1947 — January 23, 2025

West Jordan

Reid Tolman Brinton, 77, passed away peacefully in the arms of his beloved daughter on Thursday, January 23, 2025. Born on October 12, 1947, to Clark and Cumorah Brinton, Reid was the youngest of seven children. His arrival brought profound joy to his family and helped heal the heartbreak of their earlier loss of their only daughter in a tragic fire.

Reid grew up on a mink farm in Peoa, Utah, where he learned the value of hard work—a principle that shaped his life. This work ethic propelled him to many accomplishments: serving six years as a Green Beret in the Utah National Guard’s 19th Special Forces Unit, playing football at Dixie College, graduating from Brigham Young University, running 33 marathons, and becoming the president of three property management companies.

In 1974, Reid fell in love with Vickie, a self-proclaimed California hippie who had recently discovered her faith. On September 6, 1974, they were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Despite their differences, Reid and Vickie became best friends and steadfast companions for 42 beautiful years until Vickie’s passing in 2017. Reid’s devotion to Vickie was evident throughout their marriage, especially in her final years, when he sacrificed much to care for her with love and unwavering dedication.

In 2018, Reid found love again with Joanne Rich. Both having endured the pain of losing a spouse, Reid and Joanne married on July 7, 2018. Welcomed warmly by the Rich family, Reid and Joanne shared joyful adventures, including traveling the world in their first year of marriage. Joanne and Reid were devoted companions, supporting and advocating for each other until Reid’s final day on earth.

Reid was known for his contagious sense of humor and a smile that could light up any room. Even as dementia stole some of his memories, it could never steal his wit. Until his final days, he cracked jokes and lifted spirits, leaving those around him laughing through their tears.

Reid’s unwavering faith in the Lord defined his life. He served as a missionary in Texas, as a devoted bishop, and in numerous other callings within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Humble and honest, he taught by example, demonstrating forgiveness, love for his family, and a life grounded in eternal values.

Even as his health declined, Reid’s love for others only deepened. He remained a devoted father, husband, and friend, truly beloved by all who knew him.

Reid is survived by his wife Joanne; his children, Porter (Katrina) Brinton of Sandy, UT; Nabby (David) Hazar of Draper, UT; Chauncy Brinton of Tacoma, WA; and Pack Brinton of Draper, UT; along with seven adoring grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife Vickie, his parents, two older brothers, and his sister.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and staff at Ashford Assisted Living and Memory Care in Draper and Serenity Hospice of Utah for their compassionate care.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 31 at 11:00 AM at River Oakes Stake Center, 8950. South Temple St (1300 West). Viewings will take place on Thursday, January 30 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and again prior to the funeral from 10:00 to 10:45 AM. Burial will follow at Crescent Cemetery, 11105 South State Street.

Reid’s legacy of love, service, and faith will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
