Richard "Rick" Garn Betenson, age 63, died January 2, 2008.surrounded by his family after a long battle with lung cancer. Rick was born in Cedar City Utah to Joseph Garn Betenson and Beulah Holyoak. He began his career as a bus boy at the Hawaiian Restaurant and worked his way up to a head cook, though he was more than that, he became the "adopted" son of Johnny and Mary Quong.
A big teddy-bear, he was always thinking of others and his positive attitude and caring touched many lives. A few of his many routes of service included: service in the army, working in Washington State as an advisor and caretaker for troubled youth, and acting as a father, brother and friend to many he called family. He showed his love for others by showering them with Chinese food, or his specialty, prime rib. A majority of the Chinese community of Salt Lake loved and were loved by Rick, especially Alvin and Calvin Quong, Kim Cockrell and Becky Greer.
He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Ed and Eleanor Betenson, whom he resided with; numerous nieces and nephews; the Bob and Barbara Best family; the Quong family; and numerous others he considered family.
