Richard Dee Miller, 83, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away peacefully of causes incident to age on August 1, 2012 at Mountain View Hospital in Payson Utah. He was born August 24, 1928 in Delta, Utah to John August and Olive May Miller. Richard was raised and schooled in Springville,Utah graduating from Springville High in 1946 and later attended Brigham Young University. He was drafted into the military and served in the Korean conflict from October 1950-September 1952. After returning home from the army, he met and later married his sweetheart, Shirley Mae Scott on May 1, 1953. They enjoyed 59 years together and raised 7 children.
Richard had a fascination with the natural world and was quite knowledgeable in horticulture and geology. He enjoyed prospecting. He loved birds and raised a variety including pheasants and doves. He instilled this love of nature in his children. Among his many talents were stone masonry, oil painting, carpentry and writing. He worked at Geneva Steel as a crane operator in the open hearth for 31 years. After retiring from Geneva Steel, he worked for Provo City Corp. for 10 years.
Dad was a gentle soul and was loved by all who met and knew him. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife Shirley, children: Reed (Linda) Miller, Provo; Dean (Julie) Miller, Huntington; Christine (Randall) Lutnick, Fallbrook, CA; Connie (Maurice) Mathews, West Jordan; Kenneth (Gretchen) Miller, Vernal; Roy Miller, Provo; Robert Miller, Provo; 19 grandkids and 25 great grandkids with 15 step grandkids and 10 step great-grandkids.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Carol Ann, 2 brothers, 1 sister, 2 grandkids and 1 great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at 11:00 at the Grandview 2nd Ward Chapel located at 1081 w 1060 n Provo, Utah. A viewing will be held prior to service 9:30-10:45 at the same location for family and friends. Interment in the Provo City Cemetery.
