Richard "Rick" LaMar Nielson, age 55, of Washougal, WA passed away June 14, 2010 from kidney cancer. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. Rick graduated from West High School in 1973 and was the Seminary Vice President and a member of the Seminary Choir where he met his future wife. On May 1, 1976 he married Diane Barclay in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. As a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he served an LDS Mission to Dé¼sseldorf, Germany from 1974 to 75 and he fulfilled many callings, including Scoutmaster, Ward Clerk and Ward Mission Leader. He and his wife served as Baptistry workers in the Portland LDS Temple. Rick's passion for learning included Greek, Hebrew, and many other historical topics. He enjoyed playing the bagpipes and was a member of the Utah Pipe Band. Rick received his Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Utah in 1982 and worked 31 years for PacifiCorp. Rick is survived by his wife, Diane; four children, Nick (Amy) Nielson, Amanda (Chris) Tunnell, Jane (Beau) Burningham and Andrew (Amanda) Nielson; father, LaMar (Diane) Nielson; sister, Cyndi (Randy) Lorenc; seven granddaughters, and one grandson. He was preceded in death by his mother, Fay Nielson. Funeral services were held Saturday, June 19, 2010 at 12:00 Noon in the Washougal LDS Ward Chapel ( 3920 Q Street, Washougal, WA). The family met with friends on Saturday from 10:00 to 11:45 AM at the Church. Utah funeral services will be held Saturday, June 26 at 2:00pm at the LDS Chapel on 3665 S. 6000 W. in West Valley City, Utah. A viewing will be held on Friday, June 25 from 7:00 to 9:00pm at the same location and also on Saturday from 1:00 to 1:45pm before the funeral. Burial will be in the Redwood Memorial Cemetery (6500 South Redwood Rd). A bagpipe tribute will be held at the graveside.
