Richard E. Thayer, 81, of Heber City, passed away September 8, 2011 due to complications of leukemia. He was born October 6, 1929 in Toledo, Ohio and had lived in Park City and Heber City since 1989. Richard served in the U.S. Navy Corp of Engineers from 1955 until his honorable discharge April 1958.
Richard and Annabelle Leach married in 1956 in the St. George LDS Temple. He studied engineering, receiving a masters degree in engineering management from UC Berkeley. A professional engineer for more than 45 years, he worked on light rail projects on both coasts including the BART system. In 1990, he began work with UTA which lasted until his retirement in 2010. Richard was preceded in death by his wife Annabelle; his parents Vincent and Dorothy Thayer; brother Robert Thayer. Richard is survived by his sister Barbara Salsbury; children Kathie (Steve) Coleman, David (Tammy)Thayer, Steve (Mary) Thayer, Robert (Elaina) Thayer, Elizabeth (Merlin) Tryon, Ruth Randall, and Becky Thayer (Erik Hogan); as well as 19 grand- children and 1 great-grand-daughter.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 13, at the LDS chapel at 6250 East 1200 South, Heber City, UT. Viewing at 10 a.m.
