Robert Rudolph Hamblin 1929 ~ 2012
Robert Rudolph Hamblin passed away May 13, 2012 at the age of 82. He was born December 1, 1929 to Eliza Roxey Norton and George Albert Hamblin in Mesa, Arizona. He grew up in Mesa and Portland, Oregon until he met his wife, Elva Jacklin, while attending Brigham Young University. They were married March 30, 1951 and were later sealed for time and eternity in the Salt Lake Temple.
They were blessed with three children, Mary, Robert, and Russell. Robert was a devoted husband and father and the funnest of grandpas. He worked as a teacher and coach until his retirement.
An active member of the LDS church, he was an enthusiastic and dedicated scout leader for many years. A die-hard BYU fan, he played football for BYU from 1949-1952. He and his wife Elva served a full time mission to Arkansas in 1994 and another mission in the Los Angeles Temple in 1995.
He is survived by his wife, Elva; daughter, Mary (Bill) Estes; son, Robert Hamblin; daughter-in-law, Jane Hamblin; and son, Russell (Beverly) Hamblin; 13 grandchildren; and 24 great grandchildren; brothers, Howard Hamblin and William Hamblin. Funeral services will take place at noon on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at the Crescent Eleventh Ward building, 89 East 11000 South, Sandy. A viewing will be held that morning from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. immediately prior to the services. Interment to take place at the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the BYU Athletics Department (football program).
