After a courageous 10-month battle with cancer, Robert James Martinez Jr. died in his home on Friday, January 14, 2011. "Bob" was born on October 11, 1965 in Carlsbad, NM to Robert Martinez Sr. and Lorraine Reyes. He was a graduate of West High School in 1984 and attended Salt Lake Community College. Because of his giving and selfless nature, he provided services as a volunteer for Intermountain Health Care for several years.
Bob had several passions and enjoyed many hobbies and activities. He loved spending time with family, watching DVD's, playing cards and reading fantasy novels/comic books. He possessed a special talent for art and spent many hours drawing and creating amazing works, which he shared with his loved ones. Favorite pastimes included eating and shopping. He had a love for music and his favorite musician was John Denver. He also enjoyed watching sports and his favorite sports teams were the Utah Jazz, the Buffalo Bills and the Oakland A's.
Bob will be remembered for his kindness to others, his courageous example, and his considerate and loving personality.
He is survived by his parents Robert Sr. and Erma Martinez and Kenneth and Lorraine Reyes; brothers Carl Martinez (Laura), Steven Martinez, Gary Martinez (Maria), Raymond Martinez, David Romero, Michael Romero and Justin Mitchell (Teesha); sisters Kristi Adamson (Lonnie) and Rachel Sanchez; and many loving nephews and nieces.
Finally, our family would like to thank and acknowledge the following medical professionals and their staff for the loving care they provided to Bob throughout his lifetime and particularly during his final weeks: Dr. Ted Schultz; Dr. Richard Frame; Dr. Edward Frech; and Intermountain Hospice.
A mass and funeral service will be held Friday, January 21, 2011, at 11 a.m. at St. Olaf's Catholic Church, 1793 Orchard Drive, Bountiful, UT 84010. Friends may visit with family on Thursday, January 20, 2011 from 6 to 7 p.m. at St. Olaf's. A vigil and rosary will follow immediately after from 7 to 8 p.m. Interment: Kaysville City Cemetery at 500 East Crestwood Road, Kaysville, UT 84037.
