Robert Joseph Raines
1950 ~ 2011
Robert Joseph Raines passed from mortality on May 7, 2011, surrounded by his wife and children. Robert was born October 10, 1950 in Vernal, Utah to Adrian and Edna (Collett) Raines. He grew up in Maeser and graduated from Uintah High School.
After serving a mission in Vienna, Austria, he married Julia Hammond on December 19, 1971 in the Mesa, Arizona Temple. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Health and Safety from Utah State University. Robert served in the Army and was stationed in Germany and California as an Environmental Science Officer. After working for 25 years as a Safety Engineer, he retired from Chevron in 2004.
Robert focused his life around the service of others, generously serving and loving all those he saw in need. He left a great legacy for his children: Robert (Megan) Raines; Judith (Jeremy) Mangum; Donald (Myla) Raines; Miriam (Bryan) Plass; Jocelyn (Nathan) Smith; Joseph (Courtney) Raines; Rebekah (RJ) Spencer; 29 grandchildren; his sisters Janice Hunting; Adreana McDonald; Darlene Burns. He was preceded by his parents and his brother, Carnel.
A viewing will be held at the Jordan 1st Ward Building 4145 South 3920 West, West Valley City, Utah from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 10, 2011. The funeral will be held at the same location at 11:00 a.m. on May 11, 2011 with a viewing that morning from 10:00 - 10:45 a.m. Graveside services will be held at 5:00 p.m. at the Maeser Fairview Cemetery, 400 South 3500 West, Vernal, Utah.
