Robert Joseph Schell returned home to join his wife, Joanne, after completing his mission here on earth on June 24, 2019. He was born in Denver, Colorado on June 2, 1940 to Simon Joseph and Bonita Jean (Langshaw) Schell. He spent his childhood between Denver and the Yakima, Washington area.
Robert married Joanne Alberts April 14, 1962. He became an instant father of 3 daughters. He and Joanne had 1 daughter and in 1966 he adopted Joanne’s 3 daughters.
He joined the Air Force in 1957. He had spent in year in Saudi Arabia (1958) and Thailand during the Vietnam War (1969). He was transferred to Hill AFB, UT in 1970. He was a Dental Hygienist/Dental Tech in the Air Force for over 21 years. He retired in 1978. Robert & Joanne remained in Utah after he retired.
After retiring from the Air Force, he enrolled at Weber State College and graduated with an associate’s degree in Respiratory Therapist.
He worked as a Respiratory Therapist at University of Utah Hospital in the head trauma unit and at Primary Children’s Hospital in the Neo-Natal Unit for about 3 years. The stress was overwhelming and he starting seeking for a different type of work. He resigned his position when he was hired full time for the Church.
He worked as a part time custodian for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was promoted to Maintenance Supervisor 3 months later with the responsibility of 7 chapels and a crew of 12-14 employees . He worked for 17 years, before a second retirement. He continued another 3 years as a volunteer filling in whenever he was needed.
He held many positions in the Church including Bishop of the Clearfield 9th Ward.
Robert is survived by 2 daughters, Margie (Kevin) Kinney and Cindy Fisher, 5 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne, 2 daughters, Patty and Linda Schell, 1 great-grandson Braxton Fisher, his 4 younger siblings and parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Monday, July 1, 2019, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Clearfield, 838 E. 600 S. A time of visitation will be held at the church on Monday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be in Clearfield City Cemetery. Robert
