Our devoted and loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, Ron Durrant, passed away on 18 May 2023 in Salt Lake City, Utah, of natural causes. Those who knew Ron described him as an inspirational teacher, and one who brought out the best in his friends and associates. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of teaching and serving others. His family was the most important thing in his life.
Ron was born 7 August 1930 in Franklin, Idaho to William Earl and Mary Harper Moses Durrant, their second son of six children. From this humble beginning he developed into a man of simplicity and honesty, valuing hard work and gratitude. He enjoyed people and accepted all in his circle.
Ron married Annie May Olney on 20 July 1956 in the Los Angeles Temple and were married for 56 years, Annie passing in 2008. They met while attending Brigham Young University through friends they had both met on their respective full-time missions, Ron serving in the Western Canadian Mission and Annie in Eastern Canada. Upon graduation in Elementary Education Ron and Annie settled in Southern California, in the City of Bellflower, where they raised their family. Ron taught school, 5th and 6th grades being his favorite, and worked in school administration as a principal. Always a learner, he went on to receive a Masters Degree in Education from the California State University, Long Beach.
Ron loved his Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, serving faithfully all his life in many teaching and leadership positions, and especially loved visiting others and developing friendships. He was inspired with special sensitivities to those who were struggling, and many were the recipients of his loving kindness and service.
Ron was preceded in death by his sweet wife, Annie, of 56 years, his parents, and brothers Norman and Gerald. He is survived by brother Wilford C. and sister Joyce Steed (John). His posterity includes his three children: Ronald Wilder (Lalli), Lynette Rasmussen (Bryce), and Cindy Harling (Mark). His grandchildren: Colette May Rasmussen Watson (Robert), Erik Duane Rasmussen (Jessica), Kari Lynn Rasmussen, Kristin Sue Durrant Latimer (Patrick), Garry Ashton Dymock (Ashley), Heather Noelle Harling (Kevin), Kimberly Jean Durrant Parkinson (Adam), Allison Marchelle Harling Waite (Chad), Thomas Wilder Durrant (Kari), Brenn Mahon Dymock, Lisa Bryn Rasmussen Nielson (Zeb), Caden Dymock (Jessie) and 27 great-grand children.
The Funeral service will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints meetinghouse at 1461 N. Main, Centerville, at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 30, 2023. Family greeting time will be held prior to the services from 1:00-1:45 at the same location. Buffet will follow.
A private veteran’s memorial burial will take place at a later time.
