Rustee Burningham Stanton passed away peacefully on October 5, 2008 after a brief struggle with Leukemia. Rustee was born October 31, 1928 in Westpoint, Utah to Melvin Burningham and Mildred Hammon Burningham. Rustee graduated from Davis High School in 1946. After high school, Rustee worked for the Naval Supply Depot and enjoyed a successful modeling career.
She attended the University of Utah and Westminster College and was trained as a legal secretary. She was a lifelong Democrat and served as a delegate to the Utah Democratic Party for a number of years. Her proudest political moments included meeting and dinning with John F. Kennedy and speaking at a fundraiser for the presidential candidate. Rustee was known for her adventurous spirit, fiery red hair, and feisty personality.
She is survived by her children, Rick Stanton, Sherri Stanton, Ben Altman, and Lisa Altman (Martha Amundsen); her grandchildren, Dustin and Megan Stanton (and their mother Terri Stanton), and Nick and Robby Altman (and their mother Tracy Altman); and her siblings, Darrel ("Bud") Burningham (Joan), Sherol Erb (Gene), and Lynn Burningham. Rustee requested special mention of her marriages to James Stanton (deceased), Stanley J Altman, MD (deceased) and Lamar Wasescha. She was preceded in death by her parents and a beloved nephew.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2008 at 1:00 pm, followed by a short chapel service at 2:00 pm at Garner Funeral Home, 1001 11th Ave, SLC, UT 841003. Interment will be at the Salt Lake City Cemetery following the chapel service.
