S. Burt Chamberlain 1931-2009
Burt Chamberlain, 78, our loving Dad and Grandpa, passed away peacefully October 4, 2009 with his children at his side. He was born July 25, 1931 to Justin and Helen Chamberlain in Kanab, UT. The family moved to Salt Lake when he was 10. He graduated from Granite High School (Class of '49). He served in the US Navy from 1952-1956. He received his Bachelor's degree and Masters of Social Work from the University of Utah. He then went on to complete a Doctorate of Education at Arizona State University. He married Joy Beckstead on June 10, 1959 in the Salt Lake Temple. During their 31 years together they enjoyed raising their three children in the Holladay area. Burt helped many people during his years as a marriage and family counselor. He loved to work hard and play hard. He enjoyed designing and building houses, and built many of our family homes. He loved music, cooking, road trips in his trailer, and spending time with family. He was an active member of the LDS church and served faithfully in various callings. He especially enjoyed teaching. He will be remembered for his kind and gentle manner and his generosity. He is preceded in death by his wife Joy (1990), daughter Annette (1966), and parents. Survived by his children; Suzanne (Chris) Dahl, Bryan (Debbie Fife) Chamberlain, Becky (Dallas) Moore, and 12 grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Mar Pugh, Ravou Bagley, Bevan (Betty) Chamberlain, Mary Lou (Pat) McAllister; sisters-in-law Judy (Calvin) Jenkins, and Glora (Lee) Kartchner. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, October 8 at the Draper 15th Ward 13112 S 700 E, Draper. Friends may meet Wednesday evening 6:30-8:00 at Jenkins-Soffe 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway, South Jordan, and at the church from 9:45-10:45 prior to the service. Interment, South Jordan Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Wentworth of Draper for their loving care this past year.
