Shauna Gibbs Blasingame 1/17/1955 - 9/18/2009
THE KEEPER OF THE FLAME Every family needs one member who carries the embers from one generation to the next. Shauna was that person for us. She revered the stories, saved the photos, kept the records, and collected the treasures. Our family was blessed by her loving attention to our past and our bonds were welded by these acts of love. She was the 3rd child of Donald Joseph and Ada Weedop Gibbs. Born in Ogden, Utah, January 17th, 1955, she came into our home and brought smiles and happiness that remained with her throughout her life. A warm smile, a happy laugh, and a positive energy were her birthright. She generously shared them with us. She was a woman of consummate skill. Lying on her deathbed, she gracefully lifted her arms, looked down, and said "These hands have served me well." And we all visualized her fingers nimbly plucking silver guitar strings, patiently working tiny beads, completing fine stitchery, and creating beautiful works of art. But, no pleasure was more gratifying to her than the delight she found in her handsome and caring son, Dallas. Raising him alone was never a chore to Shauna. He was her son; but even more, he was her best friend. Nothing made her eyes sparkle more than thinking and speaking of Dallas. She was thrilled when the circle grew by adding Heidi Gubler as a new daughter-in-law. Later, as we sat talking, she reminded them that of those things she was leaving them, the most precious by far was the joy of belonging to this family. It was a pearl of great price to her and it is a most valued legacy to them. She is survived by her two brothers Ennis (Geri) and Brooks Gibbs and her two sisters Sherrill Wood and Valene Gibbs. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 26, 2009 at the Marcrest 2nd ward chapel, 6170 W. Marcrest Dr, West Valley City. A viewing will be held at the same location Friday evening September 25 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. and Saturday morning 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. prior to the services. Interment will follow at Kaysville City Cemetery.
