Sherman Harwood White

Sherman Harwood White passed away in his sleep shortly after noon on Thursday, May 20, 2010 He was born September 21, 1916 in Kamas, Utah. He was preceded in death by his wife Wanda Kay in 1979 and one son Philip in 2008. Graveside Services will be held at Mt. Olivet Cemetery Thursday May 27th at 10:30 A.M.
Sherman is survived by three sons and a daughter. They are; Michael D. White (Victoria), Sharon A. Oliver (Ronald), Gregory G. White (Kathryn), S. Vaughn White (Judy). In addition, there are 12 Grandchildren and 24 Great Grandchildren.
Sherman loved to play golf, he was a regular every day golfer at Mick Riley's course in Murray with his "senior" friends where he played until he couldn't maintain his balance. When they were told of his passing there were many very kind remarks, one that was repeated often was "Old Sherm could sure hit the ball a helluva long ways". He missed them a lot in the past year and it seems they missed him as well.
He also loved to fish and hunt and just be in the outdoors. He was born In Kamas, but grew up in Idaho and could tell you about every fishing hole and game trail between Idaho Falls and Jackson Wyoming and all the way up past West Yellowstone.
In addition to that, he was a great traveling companion. He loved to travel, especially road trips. He would fill up the time with stories of his past, from panning for gold on the Salmon River, to chasing wild horses from Western Idaho to Eastern Wyoming; of fishing or hunting trips or building the trailer pads for the contractors at the Glen Canyon Dam, or wiring ships at the shipyards in San Diego during the early days of World War II; of his other road trips going to North Carolina and back along the Gulf of Mexico; his drive down into Mexico and across the mountain passes down there; the stories were vivid, filled with adventure and humor.
To summarize this son's opinion; "He LIVED Life", and to quote something said of Theodore Roosevelt; "Death had to take him sleeping, if he had been awake there would have been a fight". He lived 93 years, and I will miss him, until I see him again.
