Sherry Lynn Burns-Gunn 1951-2011
Sherry Lynn Burns-Gunn, age 59, passed away on Sunday April 3, 2011 after a prolonged illness.
She was born on July 15, 1951 in Oak Park, Illinois to Helen Hazel Dietmeyer and Merle Richard Burns. They later moved to California where she graduated from West Covina High School in 1969. She went on to Rick's College where she received an Associate's Degree in history. Not long after completing this, she met and married Theras in the Los Angeles temple on May 13, 1972.
She devoted her time to her family by getting involved in coaching soccer or baseball. Or she became involved in various assistant roles through sports for one or more of her children. She volunteered for after school programs that her children were involved in. Once they were predominately grown she re-entered college and graduated from Sierra College with an Associate's in Psychology. Later, in 1999, she graduated from California State University, Sacramento with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. Lastly, she graduated with a Master's of Science in Counseling in 2001.
She spent a lot of time traveling with her children and grandchildren while accompanying her father on his many trips all over the United States. During these various trips she focused on her favorite past time, photography. Generally she would focus on the landscape and scenery, but she loved people more as a subject or focus. She loved torturing her family by taking their picture every chance she got. There are many boxes of film and some undeveloped rolls still today. Thankfully, the digital age came and cut some of that down. Her various ailments slowed her down but they never stopped her. She just chose warmer places and specialized equipment to help her.
She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Theras Gunn, and four children: Jacob Gunn, Jody Silva, Kristen Gunn and Derek Gunn, and her sister Bonnie McInturf and six grandchildren.
The funeral and the viewing will be April 8, 2011. The viewing will begin at 9:30am. The funeral will begin at 11:00am. The funeral will be at the 39th Ward Church 1929 West 1500 North Lehi, Utah. Graveside services will be held at Lehi Cemetery located at 1100 North 400 East Lehi, Utah.
