Shirley Snow Horsley

Shirley Snow Horsley, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away early Wednesday morning, December 14, 2011, at her home in Provo, Utah. She was born to John Snow and Olive Ianson Holton, July 19, 1935, in Rawmarsh, West Riding, England.
As a teen her family moved to Utah and eventually settled in Ogden. She attended Ogden High, Weber College and graduated with her degree from Brigham Young University where she was also the Chairwoman for the 1957 BYU Songfest.
After graduation she moved to Cambridge Massachusetts to work. While there, she met and later married, Richard B. Horsley in the Salt Lake Temple, June 9, 1958. Shirley spent the first years of her marriage as a school teacher in American Samoa and in Orem and later transitioned to a full time homemaker.
Other than her family she loved listening to classical music, playing the piano, doing genealogical research of her Irish ancestors and collecting famous children's books. When her health permitted she attended and served actively in various positions in the LDS church. She raised 2 sons and a grandson who served honorable LDS missions and supported her husband faithfully in his church callings and as a businessman in the community.
She leaves behind a brother, Paul (Nancy) Snow and 5 children. Teresa Horsley, Todd (Sarah) Horsley, Michelle Horsley, Raelene (Randy) Barney and Richard J. (Emily) Horsley. She is preceded in death by her parents and youngest son, Matthew Horsley, who died at the age of 16 due to cancer.
A Viewing will be held at the Grandview 7th Ward, 1120 N. 850 W. in Provo, Tuesday December 20, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and again Wednesday morning, December 21, 2011 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. just prior to the funeral service which will begin at 11:00 a.m. Internment will be at East Lawn Memorial Hills.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Sunrise Hospice, Morgan Senior Center and Mountainland for their care and support. Flowers can be sent to the Grandview 7th Ward Tuesday evening. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the church Missionary and Perpetual Education funds.
