Shirley Fay Jensen

Toquerville, UT - Shirley Fay Davis Jensen, 76, Our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, died from cancer at her home in Toquerville, UT, on March 16, 2012, with her family present. She was born in her Grandma Webb's home in Deseret, Utah on April 25, 1935, the daughter of Verdon John and Fay Webb Davis. As a girl, Mom lived on a farm and helped with chores. She often recounted fond memories from her childhood. She graduated from Hinckley High School in 1953 and Utah State University in 1957 with a B.S. Degree and Teaching Certificate in Home Economics and Management. She married Morgan Snow Jensen September 7, 1956, in the Salt Lake Temple. They were blessed with 4 wonderful children. Mom was a leader and teacher, and taught Home Ec. at Gooding, Idaho High School before starting her family. Mom was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She faithfully served in many callings at both the ward and stake levels. She served three missions with her husband; Puerto Rico, the St. George Employment Center, and the Hurricane Utah Spanish Branch. They also served as ordinance workers in the St. George Temple. She was proud that all her sons became Eagle Scouts and served missions. Mom was a fantastic cook and talented seamstress! Her husband and children never left home without a good cooked breakfast and we rarely ate out but our friends often ate at our house! Mom sewed many of our clothes including pants, shirts, and dresses. Athletic and strong, she was the first one chosen for teams as a child. She could outrun, out jump, and out press her teenage sons and their friends. She loved water skiing, snow skiing, and square dancing. Mom loved to travel and explore new places and things. We moved often with Dad's job and that allowed us to visit many places. She made a home for her husband and children in Gooding and Shoshone, Id; Monticello, Cedar City, Kanab UT; Springfield VA; and Toquerville, UT. As her children grew, she started her own catering business which involved the whole family. She catered countless weddings and events. Mom had a green thumb! Gardens, flowers, and children flourished under her care. She taught us to work hard and do our best. She was a loving, generous woman who impacted many lives. She is survived by: her husband; children; Sherri (Richard) Batt of Cedar City, UT, Greg (Cindy) of Houston, TX, Brett (Tonia) of Provo, UT, Randy (Rebecca) of Riverton, UT, foster son, Shreve Damon of Draper, UT; 9 grandchildren, brother and sisters, Richard (Karene) Davis, Joan (Richard) Workman, and Joyce (Marvin) Westmore. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister in law; and a grandson.
