Smith Kathy Jean Nielson

Kathy passed away peacefully in her home on November 20, 2010, after a 2½-year battle with cancer with her loving family surrounding her.
Kathy was born August 5, 1950, in Los Angeles, California, and was adopted by Claron and LaVerda Nielson when she was three months old. She lived in Victorville, California, for all of her childhood. Her hobbies included sewing, cross-stitch and crochet.
She married James H. Chance in 1970. Together they had nine children. They were married for 28 years. She then was married to J. Michael Smith for 10 years.

She was a loving, devoted mother, wife and friend. Her easy going personality made it easy for her to make friends and reach out to others. She was very patient in dealing with her illness and used her sense of humor to get through her struggles.
Her parents, Claron and LaVerda Nielson, preceded Kathy in death. She is survived by her husband, Michael Smith, brother Kirk and his wife, Kathy, of Arkansas, and her 9 children. The children's names are James (Courtney), Paul, Michelle (Shem Jessop Jr.), David (Brenda), Daniel (Heather), Amanda (Mike Bishop), Jacob (Lori), Jared (Candace), and Jessica Chance and her 25 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
There will be a viewing on Friday, November 26, 2010, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, November 27, at 12:00 noon. The funeral will be Saturday at 1:00 pm.
