Alvin Adams Gabrielsen, Sr.
Ogden--Al Gabrielsen, 84, died January 8, 2011, from causes incident to age. He was born March 17, 1926, in Logan, Utah, to Lyman C. and Erma Adams Gabrielsen. He married Grace Elizabeth Millard on November 23, 1949, in the Salt Lake City temple.
He enlisted in the Army during WWII and served in the medical corps during the Battle of the Bulge, and in the Army of the Occupation in Germany.
After an LDS mission to Norway, he graduated from Utah State University. He was owner and principal of Gabrielsen Architects. He served many years as a scout leader and helped 32 young men, including his sons, become Eagle Scouts. He enjoyed flying airplanes, camping, fishing, hiking, drawing, oil painting, traveling, and gardening. He and Grace volunteered widely, including the Red Cross, and enjoyed serving in the temple for seven years.
Al was truly an old-world craftsman who could build or fix just about anything, who enjoyed the company of many lifelong friends, and who cherished his family and the freedoms of this country.
He is survived by his wife and children: Christie (Martin) Yurth, Al (Karleen) Gabrielsen, Jr., Carol (John) Andrews, Evan (Terisa) Gabrielsen, and Ellen (Wade) King; seventeen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren; brother, Ronald, and sister, Nedra Bedke. Preceded in death by his parents; sister, Carol Maren; brother, Lyman; and granddaughter, Emily King.
A viewing will be held on Friday, January 14, from 6 to 7:30 pm at the Rock Cliff First Ward, 1000 Suncrest Drive, in Ogden. Graveside services and military honors at 11:00 am Saturday, January 15, at the Logan City cemetery.
