Stephen Andrew Loftus Jr

Stephen Andrew Loftus, Jr. passed away peacefully at home on January 27, 2010. He was born March 31, 1923 in Bremerton, Washington to Stephen Andrew Loftus and May Powers Loftus. After graduation from high school, Stephen joined the Army and served with the 10th Mountain Division where he was nominated for officer Candidate School and upon completion was transferred to a unit which served during the occupation of Japan. He was associated with General Douglas McArthur. After his service with the Army, Stephen graduated from the University of Colorado and continued his studies, receiving postgraduate degrees from Princeton University in the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. Upon completion of his studies, he was recruited by the newly-formed CIA where he served. He then transferred to the Department of Defense and was assigned to the Pentagon. His career with the United State Government was varied, and his assignments carried him from Bangkok, Thailand to Paris, France. On many of his assignments he was accompanied by his family. Stephen is survived by his wife and sweetheart, Margaret Anne Taylor Loftus; and his "children of the heart:" Wendy (Emery) Case, Daphne, AL; Anitra (Emery) Bryant, Draper, UT; grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Stephen is also survived by his children: Kathleen Squires, California; Cynthia Louise Loftus, Colorado; Teresa Mary (Neal) Allen, Dubai; James Arthur Loftus, Hawaii; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Rosemary, grandson Greg Squires, his dear wife of 51 years, Florence Gertrude Schoene (Chris) and Gretel (Emery) Byers. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at the Draper 6th Ward building, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 12870 South 1300 East, Draper, UT. Family and friends are lovingly invited to gather with the family at 10:00 am to 10:45 am at the ward house to celebrate Stephen's life. Special gratitude and appreciation are given to Stephen's physicians, Drs. Chris W. Jones and Patricia Nelson. Hearts for Hospice sent their special angels, Joe and his staff, for exceptional care.
