Stephen L Rowley

Mom's sweetheart and our loving Father passed away on February 11, 2010 in a skiing accident. He was with many of his family members and doing something that he loved at the time of his death. Steve was born on July 22, 1957 in Provo, Utah to Carl M. and Maxine Moon Rowley. He graduated from Orem High School where he participated in band and football. His love of sports continued in college where he played basketball for Utah Technical College and averaged over 13 points a game. He passed on his love of sports to his two sons, and there was nothing that he enjoyed more than to see them play. Some of his other hobbies and interests were golfing, biking, and hiking. He loved the outdoors and felt closest to his Father in Heaven when he was in nature. He was a dedicated member of the LDS Church and served a full-time mission to Manchester, England from 1976-1978. He worked with his whole heart and continued his service in the church throughout his life. He held many callings including Primary teacher, Elders Quorum President, a member of the High Counsel and Bishopric, and was currently the Ward Clerk for the College 10th Ward. His testimony was a great strength to his family and all who knew him. He married Mary Lee Jones on April 9, 1980 in the Provo, Utah Temple. They met as youth when Steve helped Mary's family move into their Orem neighborhood. His goal in life was to make Mom laugh and be happy. They spent 30 wonderful years together and enjoyed raising a family. He was a devoted and loving father, and we will cherish every moment we had with him. He graduated from BYU with a Bachelors degree and was working as a home appraiser. He worked in Contract Services for a number of years, which provided opportunities for the family to live in several different locations where they met many wonderful people and developed some very close friendships. Dad had a lively sense of humor. We all were drawn to him at family gatherings as we listened to his wild and entertaining stories. His happiest times were with his family. We will all remember his contagious laugh and the joy that he brought into our lives. Everyone was happier when he was around and he will be sorely missed. We love you Dad. Surviving family include: his wife Mary, Erin (Jeremiah) McLerran, Paige (Val) Gibson, Lisa (Kyle) Winder, Craig, and Jeff Rowley; his parents Carl and Maxine; siblings Creig Rowley, LeeAnn Payne, Russ Rowley, Kathleen Francis, and Val Rowley and 5 grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, February 17th at 11am with a viewing being held from 9:30-10:30 at the Lakeview 5th Ward chapel. (400 W 1800 S, Orem, Utah). The family will also visit with friends Tuesday, February 16th from 6-8pm at the same location. Interment will be at the Orem City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to "Funds for Stephen L. Rowley" at any Bank of American Fork branch.
