Devon Howell, a most kind and gentle man, passed away on January 8th, 2011 due to complications of Alzheimer's disease. He was 78 years old. He enjoyed the simple things of life and being with his family and friends -especially over a good meal.
Devon was born on May 31, 1932 in Blackfoot, Idaho to Reta Fackrell and Newell Howell. He graduated from Blackfoot High School and Brigham Young University. He enjoyed sports in his youth and as an adult. Devon was in the grocery business all of his life and owned a few businesses of his own. He served a mission in the Central States from 1953 -1955 for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served as an active member all of his life. His hobbies included photography and he spent his life collecting memorabilia including coins and keeping records of events and history. He loved dancing to lively music & especially enjoyed old time fiddlers, guitars, & banjo pick'n. He married Patsy Jeanne Strong Hiatt on April 14, 1960 in the Salt lake Temple. They lived in and raised their early family in Blackfoot, Idaho, then moved to Utah in 1964. The family lived in Woods Cross, Heber City, and finally West Jordan & the family grew along the way.
Devon is survived by his wife Patsy, and children: Rose, Tate (Sharon), Tyler (Danene), Ginger (V), Chris (Emmy), Reese, & Ann. Grandchildren: Tory, Brandy (Jan), Ryan, Travis (Cindy), Shae (Demetri), Justin, Jace, Brady, Lindsey, Vickie (Lee), Steven (Jessica), Matt (Annisha), & Bryan. Great Grandchildren: Jordan, Kenyon, Adia, Jaden, Ashon, Zackery, Skyler, Hunter, Clayton, McCaden, Camden, Rhylee, Bridger, Madison, Jenna, Tyler, Trelynn, Andrew, & Kaden. His sister, Darlene (Reed) Murdock & Brothers, Varon (Kathy) Howell, and Gaylon (Barbara) Howell & their families. Devon was preceded in death by both of his parents, & his son Todd.
A viewing will be held at the Westbrook 3rd Ward, 6500 So. Dixie Drive (3650 W) on Friday, January 14th from 6-8 PM & also one hour prior to the funeral services. The funeral will be held at the same address on Saturday, January 15th at 1:00 PM. Internment held at Mountain View Memorial Park (Cotton Wood Heights) following the services. The family would like to give special thanks to ALL who rendered assistance in his final days.
