Our beloved Veldon passed away on November 18, 2010 after lung complications. Veldon Ray Hodgson was born April 30, 1922 in Teton, Idaho to Henry Moroni Hodgson and Ludy Ada Baker.
Veldon served in the U.S Marine Corps from 1942 to 1946 achieving certification as an Aerial Navigator and attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. During his military service, he ventured to Hollywood, where he met his lifelong sweetheart Garda Moulton, formerly of Delta Utah.
The two decided to postpone marriage while Veldon served as a full time missionary in the Central States Mission from 1946 to 1948. Though Veldon received a "Dear John" letter from Garda, the two were married in the Salt Lake City Temple on March 18, 1949. Veldon graduated from the University of Utah in 1951, with a BA degree in Physics and Mathematics.
He worked for thirty-seven years as an Engineer in the aerospace industry, working on numerous high-profile projects including Apollo, Space Shuttle, Space Station, Voyager and Viking.
As an active member of the LDS Church, Veldon served in numerous callings throughout his life, from Branch President and High Priest Quorum instructor to specialist in Family History Centers in Utah and California.
Together with his wife, he spent many hours doing family history research, a passion they both developed early in life. Together they raised five children, four girls and one boy.
Veldon is survived by his wife, Garda; four children: Lorraine Ironplow, Julie Hodgson, Kerrye Dixon and Brett Hodgson; fourteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, November 27, 2010 at the Lakeview Chapel, 150 West 1600 South Orem Utah. Viewing: 8:30am to 10:00am. Interment: Orem City Cemetery.
