Velma Rosalie Horman Connell, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2010. The testimony of her life was seen as she faithfully endured personal trial with patience, cheerfulness, and gratitude. She is now free of the burdens she experienced here and enjoying a sweet reunion with her beloved Wess and her mother and father who preceded her in death.
Velma was born October 24, 1935 in Alameda, California to Joseph S. and Johanna N. Horman. She grew up in Idaho Falls, Idaho where she graduated from Idaho Falls High School. She married Wesley Dale Connell on November 14, 1956 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They were together in this life over 51 years. They settled in West Valley City, living in their home in Academy Park for more than 45 years. Velma worked at several different companies during her adult life in the electronics, retail, and medical fields. After Wess' retirement, they served a mission to the Hunter, Utah Bishops Storehouse for the LDS Church. Velma was very active in the LDS church throughout her life. She served in the Young Women's organization for many years as well as in the Relief Society and Primary. Velma and Wess enjoyed serving others and prior to becoming ill with Multiple Sclerosis, they would often host socials in their home for young married couples. She was an active member of the Daughter of Utah Pioneers and the MS Society.
Velma's legacy was her family. She always enjoyed having them near. She is survived by her 3 children Kent (Becky) of Crystal Lake, Illinois; Kathy (Jeff) Lancaster of Riverton with whom she lived and by whom she was cared for the last 5 years of life; and, Chris (Doreene') of West Jordan. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren (with more on the way), and her two sisters, June Peek of Stockton, California and Birdie Walz of Idaho Falls, Idaho.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Camielle, Jolene, Miney and all the Staff of Sunbrook Home Health and Hospice for their loving care and support.
