Vera Giles Cluff, age 89, passed away peacefully at her home in Lindon, UT April 24, 2008 after a short battle with cancer.
Vera was born in Heber City, UT April 1, 1919, to Charlotte Elizabeth Moulton and John Fredrick Giles. She was the 7th of 10 children. She attended schools in Heber City, UT, Wasatch Co. graduating from Wasatch High School in 1937. She also graduated from Wasatch LDS Seminary.
On September 7, 1938 she married Wendell Moyle Cluff in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They lived in Midway, UT for the first 20 years of their marriage where they were active in church and community activities. While living in Midway, they were blessed with 5 children, Kathleen, Charlotte, Marilyn, Harvey and Sharon. In 1958 the family moved to Dillon, Montana on a cattle ranch. Here they were blessed with two more children, Larry and Suzanne.
Vera served in various church callings including Relief Society and Young Women President. She has been a Visiting Teacher all her life with her last calling as Visiting Teacher Supervisor. She served as an ordinance worker in both the Provo and Timpanogos Temples. She and Wendell were called as missionaries for the name extraction program.
She was an extremely compassionate, independent, loving, caring, friend, mother and grand mother. She loved serving others, working in her yard, sewing, and she was an excellent cook. Vera loved reading, writing in her journals and especially spending time with her family. She was very proud of each and every child, grandchild and great grandchild and their accomplishments.
Upon their retirement, her dream came true when in 1983 they returned to her Utah roots and settled in Lindon, UT.
Vera was preceded in death by her loving husband, oldest daughter, Kathleen, parents and 8 siblings. She is survived by one brother Jay (Alene) Giles, Mesa, AZ. Four daughters and two sons. Charlotte (Jim) Given, Anaconda, MT, Marilyn (Clyde) Biggs, Orem, UT, Harvey Giles Cluff, Elko NV, Sharon (Darwin) Johnson, Peoria, AZ, Larry Wendell (Denise) Cluff, Saratoga Springs, UT, Suzanne, (Randy) Shinkle, Wright, WY, 20 grandchildren and 43 great grandchildren.
Vera's cute sense of humor, faithful prayers and testimony, as well as her great example will be missed by all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held April 29, 2008 at 11:00am in the Lindon, 7th ward chapel, 731 E Center Street, Lindon, UT., with a viewing Monday night at the chapel from 6pm to 8pm and 9:30am to 10:45am prior to the service on Tuesday.
Interment will be in the Midway City Cemetery, Midway, UT.
