Verna Rowley Mecham Cornwell

Provo - Verna Joy Rowley Mecham Cornwell, age 72, died March 10, 2007 at her home in Provo, Utah, of causes resulting from a stroke. Verna was born July 27, 1934 in a log cabin on the Pineview Ranch, 4 miles south of Moon Lake, in the Uintah Mountains to Ralph Nephi Rowley and Carrie Elizabeth Lindsay Rowley. She lived at that ranch with her parents and brothers until the age of 8, when they moved to Duchesne, Utah. She married Howard Mecham on August 18, 1952. They later divorced. Verna married Hilton Cornwell September 17, 1977 and moved to Provo, Utah where she lived until her death. Verna had many talents, which her family was very proud of. She loved to crochet and was known to make a special baby afghan for many, many newborn nieces, nephews and grandchildren. She loved to grow beautiful roses and work in her yard with her husband. One of her hobbies was collecting dolls of all kinds. Her home is filled with them. In her younger years she was also an avid rock hound, deer hunter and antique collector. Her family and friends will miss her greatly. Verna is survived by her husband Hilton of Provo; children, Debbie (Brett) Spendlove, Virgin, UT; Becki (Jeff) Friend, Hesperia, CA; Shawn Mecham, Salt Lake City, UT; John (Marie) Cornwell, American Fork; Gary (Sharlene) Cornwell, St. George, UT; Bruce (Allison) Cornwell, Richland, WA; Melanie (David) Boles, Poway, CA; Jess Cornwell, Spanish Fork, UT; Amy (Mike) Isom, Phoenix, AZ; also 42 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren; brothers, Keith (Barbara) Rowley, Duchesne, UT; Stephen (Rojean) Rowley, Duchesne; and lastly Ekiea, her trusted canine schnauzer. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Dorinda; her parents: brother, Ralph Richard Rowley; sisters Cleo Harris and Edna Rasmussen Wright. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, March 14 at the Duchesne City Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. under the direction of SereniCare Funeral Home.
