Vickey Jean Bood Johnson, 63, passed away March 27, 2009 at her home in West Jordan, Utah due to complications from cancer, which she had successfully overcame once previously in her life.
Vickey was born on June 13, 1945 in Rexburg, Idaho to Clarence and Vera Harris Bood. She spent her childhood on a farm in Thornton, Idaho. After graduating from Madison High School in 1963, she attended Ricks College and worked in her favorite place on earth, West Yellowstone.
After following siblings to San Diego, California she met and fell in love with navy petty officer Dennis Johnson of Pocatello, Idaho. On June 29, 1968 they were married for eternity in the Los Angeles Temple.
Vickey was a talented quilter, a faithful Latter-day Saint, a loyal and patient wife, an exemplary mother and beloved grandmother. From supporting sister to Navy Wives President to LDS Church leader to Breast Cancer Support Group leader to Friend and Neighbor, she was always serving others. Whether in line at Disneyland, sitting in a lobby or waiting to buy groceries, regardless of nationality or religion, in just a few minutes, Vickey would engage and become lifelong friends with anyone.
Vickey is survived by her husband Dennis; her children: Michael (Amy), Paul, Catherine, and Lynette; her grandchildren: Kyra, Elizabeth, Victoria, Nicole and Michael; her sisters: Donna, Evelyn and Marjory; and cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and numerous friends. She is preceded in death by a baby brother and her father and mother. Her life was an example of unconditional Christ-centered love.
