William Newton Walbom

William N. Walbom, age 83, of West Valley City passed away at his home on August 11, 2011. Bill, as he was affectionately known by his family and friends was born March 31, 1928 in Murray, Utah. He graduated from Granite High school in 1946 and continued his education at Salt Lake Community College earning his associates degree in architecture. He spent most of his professional career as a long haul truck driver for such companies as Coors Brewery, Eaton Metal and May Trucking Company. He was last employed with Mollerup Moving and Storage. His profession as a truck driver provided him the opportunity to travel from coast to coast and border to border. He was an exceptional truck driver and his experiences while driving truck were often times heroic. While at other times, his truck driving stories could rival any fish story ever told. Bill married Helen Smith on March 16, 2002 in Elko, Nevada. He is survived by his spouse and his eight children from previous marriages; Kregg Walbom (son), Kathy Williams (daughter), Koddie Darr (daughter), Kurt Walbom (son), Kandi Roholt (daughter), and Kiley Walbom (son). He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and one sister, Martha Louise Broughton. He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers and sisters. Dad enjoyed fishing, dancing, the Utah Jazz and football. He was a life-long Denver Broncos fan. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was sealed in the Jordan River Temple. He was a caring and kind person who taught his children how to do it themselves. He had a strong will and voiced his opinions freely. He was an exceptional dancer and a charmer of women. He was as smooth as glass on the dance floor. He experienced the joy of marriage several times throughout his life along with the sorrow of divorce. He loved western movies and books. He could repair or build anything. He had a vast knowledge of most every subject, just ask him. He enjoyed fishing and spent many joyful hours at Strawberry Reservoir and Soldier Creek. He will be dearly missed by those close to him. His passing will leave a vacancy in all of our lives. Dad's advice, loving hug, unique sense of humor and quick wit cannot be replaced. The family would like to thank everyone at Pioneer Valley Hospital, Rocky Mountain Care and Meals on Wheels for their tender and attentive care. Thanks to all of his friends and neighbors who took such good care of him. With special thanks to Cliff Fausett. Services will be held Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Granger West 6th Ward LDS Church, located at 3935 W 2925 S West Valley City, Utah. A family memorial social will be held after the services at the American Heritage Club House located at 1820 W 3040 S West Valley City, Utah.
